SUMMARY:Mastering the Master Copy with Cody Wheelock
DESCRIPTION:Learn from the masters while developing painting techniques you can bring into your own studio practice during Mastering the Master Copy with professional artist Cody Wheelock. \nIn this full-day workshop at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art\, participants will select a painting by an artist they admire and create their own small-scale version on an 8 x 10-inch or smaller canvas. \nRather than focusing on creating an exact reproduction\, the workshop encourages artists to slow down and study the choices made by another painter. Participants will explore composition\, value\, color\, technique\, and the process behind building a successful painting. \nCody will guide students through the four-step painting process he uses in his own work: \n\nDrawing and transfer\nGrisaille underpainting\nColor block-in\nOverpainting\n\nStudents will begin with acrylic paints for the underpainting and color block-in before transitioning to oil paints for the finishing stages. This approach allows participants to experience the complete process within a single workshop. \nBy the end of the day\, students will have a strong start on\, or potentially complete\, their own master copy while gaining a versatile painting process they can continue practicing at home. \nLunch is included in the registration fee.

SUMMARY:Glass Fusing Two-Class Series at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Discover the art of glass fusing during this hands-on\, two-class workshop at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art.\nDesigned for beginners and creatives of all experience levels\, the series introduces participants to the fundamentals of working with fused glass while providing plenty of opportunities to create their own unique pieces.\nDuring the first class\, students will learn safe material handling\, glass-cutting techniques\, design assembly\, and the basics of the kiln-firing process. Participants will create fused glass jewelry using molds to shape their designs\, along with a glass mosaic artwork.\nFor the mosaic project\, participants are encouraged to bring a colorful reference image to use as inspiration for their design.\nFollowing the first class\, the assembled pieces will be fired in the museum’s glass kiln.\nStudents will return for the second session on November 11 to assemble and finish their jewelry pieces\, add final details\, and complete their glass mosaic artwork. The second class is a shorter session focused on finishing projects and picking up completed pieces.\nAll materials for both classes are included.\nThe museum’s glass kiln was generously donated by Eileen Dyer\, whose support helps make this creative experience possible.
