SUMMARY:St. Joseph Sculpture Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Sculpture Walk is a program of the Allied Arts Council that introduces contemporary outdoor public art and sculptures to our community. The Walk is a year-long exhibit of national\, juried\, outdoor sculptures displayed in Downtown St. Joseph and includes an eclectic mix of sculptures from artists nationwide. In 2021-22 there will be 21 sculptures on display. \nBROCHURE AND MAP HERE \nThe sculptures are owned by the artists and loaned to the Allied Arts Council for one year. Visitors are invited to vote for their favorite sculpture each year to determine the recipient of the People’s Choice Award. Brochures are available at various downtown businesses and in ballot boxes located near 8thand Felix\, 7th and Felix\, Edmond between 7th and 6th\, and the 500 block of Francis. To submit your vote\, simply tear off the voting panel and place it in one of the ballot boxes or bring it to the Allied Arts Council office\, or drop it through the mail slot at 118 S. 8th St.\, St. Joseph\, MO. \nThe program is made possible through a partnership with the City of St. Joseph and financial support from the Downtown Community Improvement District\, business sponsors\, and individual sponsors through the Friends of the Sculpture Walk. \nAll of the artwork on display is available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:The 8th Annual Friends of the Animal Shelter Run/Walk for the Paws 5K will be held on April 16th at 9:00am. You can register at runsignup.com/runforpaws. The race will start in the parking lot across from Bode Ice Arena\, 2500 Southwest Parkway\, St Joseph\, MO 64503. Parking will be available in the Phil Welch Stadium parking lots\, Rec Center or grassy lots across the street. This event is dog-friendly\, so we greatly encourage you to bring your dog(s) to join you for the race\, provided they are friendly with people and other dogs and are have updated rabies vaccinations. Local pet-related businesses/organization will have booths for participants to browse and there will also be a kid’s activity booth. The race will be chip timed by local business ShowMe Running Company with instant results and finish line photos. Participants will run/walk from the parking lot across from Bode Ice Arena along the scenic Southwest Parkway trail to Bartlett Park\, then turn around at Bartlett Park and make their way back to Bode Ice Arena along the Southwest Parkway. There will be water\, coffee\, bananas and other breakfast food at the start/finish area. Volunteers will also be handing out water to participants along the course during the race.

DESCRIPTION:The public is cordially invited to this special presentation about the Buffalo Soldiers sponsored by Gateway OCTA\, the St. Joseph Museums\, Inc.\, and the Black Archives Museum of St. Joseph. This event is made possible through support of the Missouri Humanities Council. It will be held at the St. Joseph Museum\, 3406 Frederick Ave.\, at 7:00 pm. Admission is free. Reservations are encouraged but are not required.\n\n\nCome learn about the Buffalo Soldier movement that started during the Civil War. The Buffalo Soldiers legacy marks an abrupt change in American history\, when Black men entered the armed forces in the United States.\n\n\nThe storytellers:\n\n\nCertified oral storyteller John “JR” Bruce\, a veteran and a recipient of the Bronze Star for Valor\, is the second president of the KC Buffalo Soldiers. Bruce is joined by two other presenters. George Pettigrew is the great grandson of original Buffalo Soldier Isaac Johnson who enlisted May 6\,1867 at Jefferson Barracks\, Missouri. Donna Madison is the daughter of co-founder James Madison. She portrays Cathy Williams\, the only woman to serve with the Buffalo Soldiers. Bruce\, Madison and Pettigrew are all Certified Oral Storytellers.\n\n\nThe event is made possible with support of the Missouri Humanities Council.

The problem is complicated by the fact that the only person who can hear or see Mom is her daughter who has been ordered by the court to spend Dad’s birthday with him as part of her Anger Management Program.
