SUMMARY:Farndale's Murder at Checkmate Manor
DESCRIPTION:Every drama group has experienced the horrors of what can go wrong on opening night\, and the ladies of The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society are no different\, with the possible exception that almost everything that could happen does! The scenery collapses\, cues are missed\, lines forgotten\, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times\, as the ladies present their ambitious evening’s entertainment with the cunning whodunit\, “Murder At Checkmate Manor.” And just in case the audience should get bored there’s a Film and Fashion Show and Murder Mystery Quiz\, complete with a Prize! The crunch comes in the denouement when the “murderer”\, about to be revealed\, has to rush home to bandage up an injured daughter. But Mrs. Reece\, doyenne of the group\, rises above the slings and arrows of outrageous dramatics to save the situation and provide the final inventive twist.

SUMMARY:Witches Tea
DESCRIPTION:Since 2016\, the museum has hosted Witches Tea\, an annual event celebrating the Halloween season. This year’s Witches Tea will be held on October 23. Guests may choose from a gourmet lunch seating at noon ($40 a person) or a gourmet dinner seating at 6:30pm ($50 a person). Attendees are invited to come in costume. This event is open to the general public and tickets are available at Albrecht-Kemper.org/witchestea or by calling the AKMA front desk at 816-233-7003. \nOriginally hosted at the Gothic Teahouse in Saint Joseph\, museum volunteer brought the event to the museum in 2016 with permission from the event’s creator. Since then Witches Tea has transformed from its original afternoon tea party into a full day of magic. \nEntertainment is central to the Witches Tea experience. This year we will feature dancing witches\, psychic readings\, magical performances and specialty vendors in the “Boo-tique.” Awards will be presented for a costume contest. \nWitches Tea promotes the AKMA’s mission as the museum’s third largest fundraising event of the year\, this event raises crucial funds for the AKMA’s operational budget\, education programs and community-centered free events. \nAbout AKMA: A work of art itself\, the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art houses one of the finest collections of American Art from the 18th century to the present.  The former William Albrecht home provides the perfect backdrop for works by pioneering artists including Mary Cassatt\, Thomas Hart Benton\, Gilbert Stuart and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.  A wide variety of special programs complement the museum’s collection\, including temporary exhibitions\, art classes\, gallery talks\, and special events. \nThe Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art aims to enrich the community through the collection and exhibition of visual arts by providing education\, creating unique experiences\, and nurturing regional artists. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM\, and Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission is $5 for adults\, $2 for seniors\, and $1 for students. Museum members and children under age 6 are free. To become a member\, visit Albrecht-Kemper.org. For more information about the exhibitions\, call 816-233-7003.
