St. Joseph named one of the 2018 Towns to Know in True West Magazine

February 7, 2018 – St. Joseph, MO – In the February 2018 issue of True West Magazine, St. Joseph is listed as one of seven Towns to Know in their annual True Western Towns edition, where they highlight cities across America who have excelled in preservation efforts. As noted in the issue, “In their preservation efforts, the towns listed here demonstrate that same spirit of renewal. We see it in beautifully renovated Victorian mansions and railroad depots, at important battle sites and brand new museums, at restored downtowns and historic ranches. Their work keeps our unique story alive, and creates places that are flat-out fun to visit.”

“Year after year, True West magazine’s editors and experts in heritage travel are impressed with the community leadership, public historians and preservationists in St. Joseph, Missouri, that are dedicated to preserving and promoting the city’s enormous contribution and legacy to the American frontier, Oregon Trail, Pony Express and Civil War history. Anyone interested in the earliest decades of the United States expansion West in the 19th century must put St. Joseph, and its outstanding museum’s and historic districts, on their destination bucket list, says Stuart Rosebrook, Senior Editor, True West.

Other towns listed in the Towns To Know portion include Amarillo, Texas; Billings, Montana; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Idaho City, Idaho; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Yreka, California.
